tell ur friend Paul the reason for the failures in the later 1000 yaesu rigs
has nothing to do with the 200 w. PA or its design--in fact the mosfets used
are extremely robust--the problem has to do with the Class A feature, and
the lack of knowledge amongst some of the operators with regard to how to
operate with it. They go into class A and reduce power which in class A
causes the PA to overheat. the other potential problem has to do with the
upward firing speaker that is just above the PA heatsink fan--its wires can
sometimes get caught in the fan and keep it from turning so on a long tx,
with no fan, the PA overheats again. These are design and communication
problems but are technically unrelated to the PA itself.

<<<Paul Hanson is the authorized serice repairman for Icom. He also services
Yaesu products like the Mark V. Paul stated to me he felt Icom and Yaesu
should
never have designed those rigs to put out 200 watts. Reason? He receives
more rigs
replacing the burnt out PA finals. For the Mark V with parts and labor the
cost is over $800. Go figure.
