I just discovered another aspect of the Orion that I love. The VOX is
superb. I rarely run VOX, because of problems in the past with other rigs -
sensitivity, anti-vox, dropping out in mid sylable, etc. So I have been a
heavy user of my trusty Heil footswitch on SSB.
Last night during the ARRL phone I put on my Heil Quiet Phone to keep some
peace in the family. At first I continued with the footswitch, but my leg was
getting cramped and I switched to VOX. It worked perfectly. Now that isn't
much of a deal, since a VOX is pretty worthless if it won't work with a
headset, but this morning I tried it with my boom mounted Goldline (and the
O2's internal speaker) with the same result. I have been using the boom mike
on VOX all day today. What a pleasure. It transmits when I talk and
otherwise lets me listen and tune. I don't believe I have had a "false" all
day. This is really the moral equivalent of QSK.
