It's a band-stacking indication, Dave, if you push the button for the band you're on, you'll see it cycle through A B C D and then back to A B C...etc. You can store various frequencies on a band and recall them. Actually, you always could do that, it's just that there was no visual indication of which "band-stack" position you were in. It's a nice feature, but one I don't use.
