In my case, it was what I had lying around after a mobile installation.  If 
you want to keep the voltage loss at 20 amps to >4%, a run of #14 is good 
for only 4 feet.  For #12, you can run 7 feet, and for #10, 11 feet.  For 
longer mobile installations, #8 is good for 18' at 4% drop.  That would keep 
13.5 V at the power supply terminals from dropping below 12.95 V, minus 
losses in the connectors at both ends.
