Dave K8BBM, Carter K8VT, Rick Denny and all the others who have
replied to my questions regarding my Dad's Omni V which ranged from
crystals to VFO methodology & more; Thank you so much for your
advice!

Thanks to those on & off list replies I got my needed answers. It
appears my Dad had filled all the optional crystals in both the 6.3
and 9Mhz banks. The optional crystal that was in the 9MHZ bank is a
model 218 for 1.8 Khz but instead of saying "Model 218" it says 48037
which is the stock code. (I'm going to have to look for a model 219 9
Mhz 250 Hz filter as I rarely operate SSB)

The problem with the VFO was not so direct but the answers offered to
me here got me understanding what should be happening & what I should
expect. I do not want to contact TenTec first with a question for if
everybody pestered them with questions, they'd never have time to do
their customers repair... so kudos to this list for being a great
first resource.

But after hearing how the VFO was to operate, it was not seemingly
doing the expected so I called TenTec and talked to Paul who
suggested it might be a cold solder joint. I touched up the junctions
on everything in the schematic related to VFO A and that indeed fixed
the problem.

I do miss the offset & external VFO with the Corsair II but it's just
a matter of learning a new habit of working offsets with the Omni.

I think I like the audio better in the Omni V than the Corsair and
that Corsair has been my benchmark for signal quality for many years.
The narrowness of the tuning is excellent and the electronic
background noise is cleaner in the Omni.

I'm going to clean up the Corsair & it's VFO, spray the pots with
cleaner, put it on the shelf under plastic and keep it for my backup
rig. Don't know I'd want to part with it at this time, it's too good
a radio to let go of.

Thanks again,

Gary
