Larry,

Welcome to the world of mobile hamming! One of the worst culprits in modern
automobiles is the in-tank fuel pump. You can isolate if that is the source by
turning on the ignition with the rig turned on. Do not start the car yet, just
turn it from lock to ignition. If it is the fuel pump causing the problem you
will hear a short burst of noise then quiet. The fuel pump runs for about a
second or so to prime the fuel manifold with fuel under pressure. It will then
run continuously after you start the engine. If you listen carefully with all
radios and heater fans turned off you can hear the noise from the fuel pump
when you first turn the ignition on (acoustic noise, not radio noise). If that
turns out to be your culprit check with your dealer for a manufacturer fix,
usually a filter block consisting of a choke and capacitor.

Other sources of noise are the numerous computer modules and data bus signals
running throughout all modern cars today.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Pat-K4BEH
