Yes, this IS very interesting - thanks for the write up Jerry.  This
inspired me to give yet one more try to v2 on my Orion again.  160M is
hopping tonight with dx with lots of strong/weak signals and distant
lightning storm noise.  The max rf gain method seemed to work well.

Unfortunately, I happen to use my subrx a great deal (stereo diversity
with a second rx antenna) and I was instantly reminded that the v2 dsp
filtering for the subrx suffers hopelessly from blowby - I routinely
hear strong signals 4Khz up the band, etc.  If I didn't use the subrx
so much, I'd stick with v2, at least for a while.  But alas, back to
v1 for me yet again, and leaving the max rf gain method behind.
