Often higher voltage lamps of the same base type can be substituted for the
original bulbs. The higher voltage lamps should be ones with lower current
demand rating. This will decrease the brightness and extend the life of the
lamps. We used to do this with No. 47 lamps all the time, going to higher
voltage bayonet base lamps.
