Good point Marinus, I had occasion one time to need Keying Compensation on a new digital rig. Not to be confused with Keying Delay or Weighting, I ended up with the MFJ 495 which is a great keyer. Many listen to side tone and have no idea what they sound like on air.

What a lot of folks do not realise is that with modern DSP processing the CW get's "muddled" and characters get shortened. This is especially noticeable if you are using an external DSP processor, the only one that has coming to my attention which is capale of keeping up with QSK at reasonable speed is the MFJ 784.

The proper way to fix this is to improve the DSP part and not start increasing the length of the characters. The increased length of the characters sound horrible when you are listening on something like the Omni 546C.
