Thought I'd give everyone an update on what I did here. After a lot of 
very useful input from the group I ended up using the T voltage to key a 
relay that then keys the amp. I used the idea on WB9DLC's web site ( 
http://wb9dlc.com/QSK-5.htm ) to tap into the T voltage but used a 
different way to get outside the radio. The relay is in a small project 
box attached to the outside of the Omni 6 right next to the heat sink. 
The thing works great and can be removed very quickly if needed. The amp 
I have is the ALS-600 with the AD5X qsk mod. It now runs smooth as silk 
with little noise
As of right now I'm a happy camper :-)
