I've tried some cross-hosting solutions that claim to run VB under Linux, so far with no success. I also set up a virtual WinXP machine under VirtualBox but the networking software has such long latency that the audio is terrible even with the network adapter in bridge mode. I really don't want to have to have a separate computer to run Windows just so I can use this one program. I'm still fiddling with the VirtualBox networking in the hopes of finding a way to make it faster, but it would sure be nice if somebody out there has already made this work. 73, Steve WA2SOC * Previous message: Last call: Orion CW filter for sale * Next message: One Plug under Linux * Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] More information about the TenTec mailing list

One Plug software under Linux?

Steve,

A friend of mine has successfully run OnePlug using a virtual
Windows XP machine in VMWare under Ubuntu, to control my Omni VII.
He used it in CW mode, and the latency was small enough that he was
able to work several EU stations on 80 and 160 meters with 100
watts. He was able to access all the controls and he used the
keyboard to send CW. No SSB was attempted. No differences in
behavior between this setup and a straight XP environment were
noted.

I don't know this for sure, but I suspect N4PY's software would also
function in this environment.
