Personally I'm offended by the tone and the language of this entire thread.

I think it should be stopped.

HAR, HAR!!!

Yeah certainly so if you are an "appliance operator". Is that
what you are? Don't "real hams" know radio electronics, at
least enough to repair and modify their own equipment. By your
reply I bet you don't. If you did, you wouldn't be offended.

But then again, who knows. You brag about restoring vintage
junk. Wouldn't the Orion II have better performance than some
(most) of those antiques.

Some of YOU "hams" are a witless lot.....

That is simply the most ridiculous argument in this entire thread.

Apparently NOBODY can criticize Tentec, unless you can build
your own station.

That's like saying you can't claim Toyota made a lemon unless
you can build your own car. There's no linkage between the
two in the real world.

I think it's a shame that a well thought out posting about the
lack of ongoing support for the OII is labelled as "whining". Calling it that is as childish as it is inaccurate.

Though the OII is a fine rig (as all posters have said) times
change, usage changes, technology changes and for a company to stay in the marketplace, they're obliged to change too. TT has made promises of support that they can't or won't keep and it is costing them in market share and repeat customers.

I own numerous pieces of both TT and Elecraft gear and
they're both fine companies. There is however a dramatically different relationship between user and designers with Elecraft. There's excitement in owning a radio that truly *is* updated to keep pace with developments as TT claimed to do with the Orions but in fact has not. They have a responsive organization that reads and replies to inquiries and suggestions and in general continues to advance the capability of their product line through this ongoing interaction with their customers.

I really wish TenTec the best, but they're not helping their
cause by making promises they don't keep and refusing to communicate regularly with their customers.
