I installed today the new FW,but I am unhappy too.
The NR is too agressive ,even at 1 setting.Yes,it copies some stations,but
loses many as it affects the audio of the station you trying to copy...
I use the line in for my TX audio,and I had to raise about 20-25db to get
enough power output.(Why did they change that???)
Didn't test the front mic gain yet,but as I read many people have noticed the
same behaviour.
I also see that the RF gain works different now as it affects a lot more the
S-meter.
(When I finished the update,I had my S-meter hanging about S-8 without antenna
connected.When I raised the RF gain from 70 to 100,the S-meter dropped down as
usual.)
I don't know if this is good or bad yet...
These are 2-3 quick notes about the new FW.
Testing continues....

I too had the hanging S meter problem. A master reset solved it.

After a computer reboot, it worked to completion, must have been a local
gremlin - I am admittedly making life a bit difficult for myself, I'm
running WinXP in a Virtual machine (VirtualBox) on Ubuntu Linux (I don't
own a natively running Windows machine) and using an USB->Serial adapter
to connect to the Orion!
My S-meter was staying at around S8 after the update, but a Master Reset
fixed that (kept user memories and optional filter settings).
Further reports will come after I gain a little experience with the update.
