While I have not done this mod to the Orion II, I work in acoustics and 
would suggest this experiment:  If you can remove the relay from the 
board, and provide flexible wire leads to it, you may lessen any noise 
by wrapping the relay in a rubber cushion.  Foam might also work, but 
today's foam often sucumbs to foam rot from humidity exposure in a few 
years.  You want a soft rubber as opposed to a hard rubber.  You could 
try this experimentally before deciding on the best material.  You want 
the relay and its leads to not conduct any vibration (sound) to the air 
or to the board it mounts upon.
