I believe that the added coax transforms the reflection coefficient,
but not the VSWR (unless it is lossy). For example, in a 50-ohm
system, loads of 100 ohms resistive and 25 ohms resistive both provide
a 2:1 VSWR. These loads would be 2 points on a Smith chart with a 2:1
VSWR circle on it. The added coax may yield a better match to the
exciter on one band and worsen it on another.
