I think the Sencore line of scopes(waveform analyzer) were best for bench
work. I worked as a TV/audio tech
for over 20 years and the Sencore line of equipment was always top
shelf...and priced accordingly.
With the SC61, you get waveform and can with push of button, choose to see
readings for
DC/frequency/Vp-p. It really speeds up troubleshooting as you don't have to
count lines and do the math.
The SC61 will do 50Mhz, and the SC3100 will do 100Mhz. SC61's can be found
in the $100-200 range,
depending on condition/acc'y. Not bad considering I paid almost $3000 for
mine in 1990.
Tektronics also makes similar units, but are more costly, and not as easy to
use.
The downside to the Sencore is they have not been made in years, so any you
find will
have some miles on it.
I wish I could also be a cheerleader for the "new" Sencore, but sadly, the
company
changed its priorities several years ago,and are of little/no help with the
older equipment.

Reworking the workbench to be a little more builder-oriented and a little
less as a fix-it area, so I am considering a scope for the first time.

used them very little in the past, but I'm relatively sure that a 50 MHz
would suffice for me here as I don't operate higher than 6 meters. I do

that short probes with minimal capacitance can be important, but I need

help with knowing how much to get without overdoing or under doing it.
What's out there that would work for joe average ham as a decent scope?
Cost
is always a factor, as is relative ease of use and learning curve (English
major here). Single trace? Dual? Lots of bells and whistles? Few?
Particular
brands? Brands and models to stay away from?
Especially fragile to ship, or should I stick to looking close to home?
