Based on that info..I sure would not buy a 707.
Why did TT create a mic with that low output?

Generally , but not always. The Collins MM-1 dynamic hand-held mic
that I
use with my KWM-2 is rated at -48 dB, which is higher than the T-T 706
electret (-52 dB). The T-T 707 dynamic desk mic, however, is much
lower at -78
dB.
