Hello all:

Suddenly experienced a couple of problems with my OMNI VI Opt. 3. Have not
been very active, but turned on radio after Hurricane Sandy left the area
and noticed weirdness.

First, the 961 supply was cutting out below normal Ic ratings. Before
cutting out, power output was varying somewhat (not wild variations, but
not stable.) Same into dummy load. Heard a low pop, now NO RECEIVE on
regular antennas. Connected antenna to AUX Antenna input-get OK receive.
Transmits OK. Output is now stable.

Noticed that a small glass component with stripes on it, across the center
pin to ground on main antenna connector cracked in half and the coax shield
on that end was off the ground lug. The AUX antenna input has the same
configuration, but is intact. Spoke to Garry at Ten Tec and he couldn’t
come up with the name for this component (is it a MOV for static discharge?)

It’s a job removing the LP filter board, but I’m ready to do it. Have all
shields off and ready to heat up soldering iron! Sounds like a diode(s) or
maybe reed relay????

Other problem is the SWR bridge is not reading and the Relative power
output is reading very low. Probably another diode(s) in pickup unit?

Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

73,

Art., N2KA..
