I am kinda confused. As part of a team that holds a record in the
Michigan QSO party, I thought I understood how these QSO Parties work.
I cannot imagine how they could conduct a state QSO Party on a single
frequency, unless its was sort of a dud. I presume it works like the
Michigan and Ohio QSO Parties, in that the entire band could be consumed
by a myriad of operators - they won't be confined to just one frequency.
So why the fuss? How is this different from any other Sunday? At any
time, the frequency could be in use by other operators, QSO Party or
not, and if someone is working our frequency, either they QSY to another
frequency, or we do. We could encounter this problem at any time on any
day.
Please, I am a relatively new guy on the team, asking a serious
question. This is not a flame or critical argument. Am I missing
something here? Is this really such a special case ?

frequency and why staying on 7.260 would be better. Would moving quite a bit
farther up than 7260 and announcing it work, like 7.285 or just to go with
7.260? I am not sure of what if any other nets are on at that time.

edification, that the NC QSO Party was going to be happening on the same

This announced frequency is, in fact, just a loose approximate location
where all NC stations spread out around to call CQ and work stations in the
contest. A "pin on a map" so to speak.
I couldn't convince John that the BEST THING FOR THE NET TO DO IS TO STAY ON
7260!!! The only difference is that he needs to be aware that the QRM will
be much higher tomorrow, and that everyone has to kind of put up with it and
play nice! THAT'S ALL!
I brought this conflict of frequencies to John's attention ONLY as a
courtesy to him that he have the best situational awareness possible.
If you could forward this response to the other reflectors that you copied
in your original message (I only subscribe to the Eagle list) I would
appreciate it.

When John wrote he agreed to give the NC QSO party the frequency, I don't
think he meant he felt he or our net owns the frequency (nor for that matter
that the NC QSO party does), just that he was accommodating their request
that our net find an alternative frequency this week. He could have replied
to them that they did not own the frequency but only have an equal right to
it - but that would have created bad conditions for all parties involved and
probably some bad feelings.
There probably are as you say some nets under the misguided understanding
that they own particular frequencies, but what they really mean is they have
enough numbers to force others to QSY or endure heavy QRM

I hate to spoil everyone's fun, but the frequency is not yours to give away.
we all have equal right to any freq we are licensed for. I love Ten Tec and
have an Orion and have owned corsair II's and Pegasus, triton delta, century
21 and more, but I still don't own any frequency, contrary to what the folks
at 14.230 and 14.300 think. ( unless they declare an emergency and request

The North Carolina QSO Party had planned their all day event for February
24th on 7.260 LSB a long time ago, prior to my starting up the TEN-TEC nets
last April 2012, after several years of no TEN-TEC nets.
I have agreed to allow Marty W4MY and their Group to have 7.260 for their
event. We shall see how active the 40 meter band is and I will move our 40
meter TEN-TEC net either 5 kHz up or down from 7.260.
Our 40 meter net starts at 20:00 UTC and the 20 meter net follows at 21:00
UTC on 14.325 USB. It would be a good thing for all of our net members to
give the NC QSO Party a checkin prior to our net. Thank you.
