a serial to USB cable works wonderfully for me. my computer has one serial
port but most of the communication from computer to radio and back is thru
serial to USB cables. I have two Orions and both talk with MIxW and LOGic9
just fine by that method.

PS a good quality serial to USB cable is desired for that application. I
have never had a problem but some folks have noted that cheap or no-name
cables sometimes do not work well. my cables came from the LOGic website and
were chosen for their reliability by Dennis, writer of LOGic.
