funny that anyone has complained about the original Orion. I have two of the Originals that have never been modified. did have to change the batteries--a tedious task for such a small thing. so far as I can tell the Originals work like they did brand new. I have used all the different firmware versions up to the latest 1.xxx with not a problem--well one version caused failure when I turned on the SWEEP. don't use SWEEP much anymore. I find the SWEEP hardly helpful in a pileup. I used one during the 10M contest CW with N1MM and nary a burp. I used the 250 KHz filter and all worked wonderfully.

First thing that comes to mind is whether or not you've changed the
capacitors that have been such a plague on other Orions?

After a a long layoff, I was back on the air this weekend for the 10m
contewet. The shack configuratioin has changed a slight bit (a new computer
and N1MM instead of WriteLog), but that's it. I have been successfully
using a MicroHam Microkeyer II for some time.

Early in the contest, the radio went deaf, but both a Master and RAM reset
cured that (although I wish it hadn't happened!).

After the contest, I shut everything down. A few hours later, when I turned
the radio back on, it sounded like internal relays were clicking as I
turned the VFO encoders or other knobs. Ratatat-tat -- the sound (for those
old enough to remember) of a baseball card hitting the spokes of your
bicycle wheel. Not the heavy/clunky sound of an amplifier relay.

The radio seemed otherwise okay, although I didn't transmit with it. Resets
did not change anything.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?
