What a nice memory jog, and I feel sure we must know each other, Pat. I also
called KUB around 1964 when I was first licensed as a teenager and met the
guys who promptly came out to resolve the 6m interference. I later found
that the KUB response to those complaints was not typical for other
utilities and lived for 5 years with unresolved issues in PA.

I started working for KUB as a student and after graduating from UT's EE
program in 1970 and worked with Clyde and Bob, the 2 radio techs, for
several years. Clyde was also an avid R/C airplane enthusiast and used 6m to
control his creations. Clyde introduced me to 2m FM and I still use the
Heathkit 5/8 wave fixed antenna I bought from him.

Mike:

Years ago I called KUB about line noise on 6 meters. I was still a teenager
and living with my parents. I certainly didn't know exactly who to talk with
at KUB and was a little apprehensive about the call.
Clyde picked up the line and said "Goforth"!

After a pause and wondering who in the world answered a phone that way, I
replied, "well okay!". (I later figured out Goforth was his name)
That had to be in the mid to late 60's.

I'm know he's long retired by now but I ran into him a few times since the
60's. I never knew he was a ham.

Several years ago, having been driven nuts by power line noise and
having found the cures, I wrote a summary.

You can find it at http://www3.telus.net/ve7tk/POWER_Line_RFI.pdf

One of the trickiest was the "Slack Span Interference" found by Clyde
Goforth.

Merry Christmas,
