Update: Problem NOT solved with the firmware update.
So I went through the wiki and found the excellent information on calibrating
the tcxo so that the sidebands are equal.
TCXO Calibration Procedure by N6IE This is the link to the method I used.
Particularly the #2 way of using WWV tones along with a digital mode "scope".
Used dm-780.
Using this method I was able to get the TCXO set for exact same tone regardless
of sideband. I do find that I get about 5 HZ variance as rig temperature
changes up and down. As stated this is well within factory spec.
Now my Noise blanker works the way it should. Solved that issue. The receive
also seems better overall. Before adjustment I was 40hz off so the 500 hz wwv
tone would be 460hz or 540 hz depending on side band selected 600 hz tone same
560hz or 640hz.
I ran the rig over the weekend in the IARU. I am not a contester but gave it a
run just to really check the rig out thoroughly. I too prefer CW so that was my
mode of choice. Rig was on for most of Saturday and Sunday. I kept an eye on
WWV using the 20 MHZ frequency for best resolution. Again stayed within 5hz
both days.
Rig is Orion 2 with the RX-366. Now this rig sings like it should! Simple to
adjust, made a you tube of it. Ten Tec Orion 2 Side Band Alignment Picture
