I would suspect a leaky C13 throwing off your dc voltage on pin 1. The other
small electrolytics around u2 are also probably suspect as well.

g in the right area. You should be able to use a scope to look at the audio
signal through both both sections of U2 into the balanced modulator (U1).You
may want to check the audio connections out/back to the mike gain pot which is
connected between the sections of U2. Also recall that the manual specs a high
impedance microphone for the radio. 73,?Dave RedfearnARS?N4ELM? Lafayette,

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Hi all Thanks to Martin
and Dave for the advice so far. One thing is puzzling me with the radio and
that is this, When I switch to SSB (upper or lower) the radio transmits what
ever power level has been set with the drive control, I have always thoug
ht that it only transmitted with audio is applied via the mic, or have I got it
wrong!. I am wondering if I have additional problems. The voltage levels on the
4558 appear to be correct, I have changed it anyway but the voltage on U1 pin 1
is only <3v not what is written, all other pin voltages are correct. So more
head scratching today ( I must be careful of getting splinters ha ha). stay
well and happy 73 Snowy G0HZE ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date:

charset="us-ascii" Is their any modulation of the output when you do that? Is
there hum, or a signal (envelope) on the output, if so, you may have some sort
of audio oscillation modulating the output if it is a single sinusoidal it
would create
a CW tone. The modulator itself may be unbalanced....good luck with your
troubleshooting. 73, Jim, WD4AIR ________________________________ From: TenTec

charset=utf-8 I?d sure take a peek at the balanced modulator. It appears that
carrier is getting though. I don?t recall if they used didoes or a IC. Mike,
