There is another source of aluminum wire that may fill the bill.
Check with your local welding supply outlet. They will have aluminum
wire in 1 lb and 16 lb. coils. They come in three gages;
.030/.035 & .047
.035 1 lb. coil is 900 feet. retails for $5.42 out here. 16 lb. coil is
14,400 feet. @ $4.79/lb.
.047 1 lb. coil $4.38/520ft. 16lb. coil $4.38/lb, 8300 ft.
This wire has worked out well for those who go the balloon, kite route. I
am going to use it on some beverages and LONG wire antennas of about 1600
ft. I'll let you know if the .047 will stand the stress of such a long
span. You would think so since the wire will weigh only 3 lbs.
