Hi, Randy,

I've used two shunt-fed towers on 160m for 22 years now with good
success. The towers are spaced 136' and I phase them for three
switchable patterns -- two endfire and one broadside. There is a
noticeable improvement in receive S/N also (in the endfire
configuration). This S/N improvement appears to be about the same as a
one-wavelength Beverage compared to a single vertical.

Your phased inv-Ls can be done the same way. Regarding the direction of
the horizontal section my feeling is that, for the sake of symmetry, they
should both be run in the same direction. I also feel that the vertical
and horizontal lengths should be identical to obviate any feed/phasing
difficulties.

Modeling a single inv-L shows that the pattern slightly favors the
direction opposite to the direction that the horizontal portion runs.
