Here are the results of my radial wire shopping:
#16 tinned copper solid: Interstate Wire, 2.6 cents a foot
#14 THHN solid: Home Depot, Lowe's, etc, 2 to 2.5 cents a foot
Magnet wire: McMaster-Carr, $2 to $3 a pound
Surplus hookup wire: $1 to $2 a pound
Aluminum electric fence wire: Home Depot, 1 cent a foot
You don't need the heavier stuff for electric reasons, rather
mechanical ones. If the hook up wire is rugged enough, that
is probably the way to go. The 14 THHN is the best bang for
the buck if you need strong wire. The tinned is good if you
want to solder crossovers together.
