Don The front end saver, or receiver feedline shorting, is a good idea if you are running power. However, with your receiving antenna so close to your transmitting vertical, you will have significant pickup of noise reradiated from the vertical. A number of us are using relays to disconnect, or detune the vertical during transmit. This greatly reduces the noise you hear during receive intervals.
