Here's a summary of my request for information on the history of the 160m DXCC award:

The first 250 to receive160m DXCC certificates are listed in "DXing on the Edge," by K1ZM. This list does not include award dates. (This book belongs in your library!)

KØCKD had a list with dates but he's misplaced it. His alphanumeric list (993 awards as of 5-27-03) without dates can be seen at:

http://www.machlink.com/~k0ckdennis/top%20band%20dxcc.txt

Here's the chronological list with date information combined from various sources:

VK1AA's Topbanders list ( http://www.topbanders.com ) appears to be a voluntary listing vs a comprehension one. There are more than 40 stations currently listed from the West Coast.

Notes

1) Since #1 (W1BB, March 1977) it took 20 years for 700 160m certificates to be issued.

2) The first station to qualify for 160m DXCC west of the Mississippi was W6RW (now SK - call reissued). The second was K6SE.

3) There are an untold number of stations across the US including some in the West, many with respectable totals beyond 100, who have never sent in cards for the 160m DXCC certificate.

4) The DXCC desk stopped issuing numbered certificates a few years ago. They are now dated only. This is for all DXCC awards, not just 160m.

5) As of this date, there have been 1101 160m DXCC certificates issued.

I am not looking to become the custodian of these records / list. This was a one time exercise. My interest was in the history of the achievement for US stations west of the MIssissippi, especially on the West Coast (6s and 7s).

Many thanks to Larry W7IUV, Bill K4CIA, Earl K6SE, Jeff K1ZM, Dennis KØCKD, Jim W6YA, Dick N6FF, and Bill NC1L.

73, Steve WB6RSE
