I usually just casually listen to the band on my way to work in the AMs.
This AM, a foggy morning in Socal with all the insulators making noise, I
was easily able to copy several JAs, rather unusual, but not impossible in
the quieter locations. Heard a batch of midwest stations working JAs on
single calls, so the opening is pretty widespread. On an off chance I called
JA8ISU as he was the only JA low enough in the band for my mis tuned antenna
to take power..... and he answered! Completed with only a couple of
rounds.. and this while driving up the 405 in Wilmington, not in a nice
quiet parking lot somewhere. This is using my little antenna, a basic
Hamstick. A K2/100 & a Hamstick mobile to JA on topband? Naaah, can't
happen... but it did. Sure wish an opening like this would happen during
Stew Perry! Excellent opening, and JA8ISU has really good ears!
