Bill and several others will also remember Jack's tireless efforts in
maintaining a "needed list" for about 12 Top Band devotees in the 1980s.
This was before packet clusters, skimmers, dimmers, reverse beacons, and
other newfangled methods of finding DX. Ma Bell was the benefactor of many
calls that we all made among the group. Sadly, you don't replace guys
like Jack. RIP OM.

W4OWJ (ex W3DPA), John “Jack” S. Matthews, “passed away in his sleep
on Monday night”, reports N8PR, Pete Rimmel. Jack was 96. He was a
member of the South Florida DX Association and had 362 confirmed in
the ARRL Mixed DXCC standings. Jack was a member of the A1 Club and
had 242 countries confirmed on 160 meters.
