Update - with the issue resolved, the beverage does hear DX on 40 meters, and is quieter than the inverted L as expected. It is able to hear signals to NW and SW, which is also expected due to the shorter length. This is just two nights of observations, bu tI will continue to perform additional experiments over the summer with lots of static and see how much quieter it can hear compared to the inverted L. 250 feet of beverage is certainly usable as a receive antenna. Thanks again everyone for the help!
