Steve, have somewhat the same problem with rock here...I usually put a 6" by 2'
piece of
PVC in the ground ( dig the hole with post hole diggers ), drive the rod in,
connect
everything up, and then fill the hole with rock salt, ( area used is covered
with pine straw )
