After reading all the methods posted it seems the obvious and easiest has
been over looked. Try a high speed Dremel tool with a 1 inch cut off wheel.
It works great, no sharp edges, the wheels are cheap at Home Depot, no axe
needed. Just put two pieces of tape on the wire and cut between them. Keep
the tape residue off the wheels.
