I also like the HF2V - had a couple of them that I took
overseas with me back in my USAF days.
I would put two or three dozen radials under one,
spreading them out in a circle from the base of the antenna.
In one location (where the yard had recently been dug up
and not yet replanted) I just rolled out chicken wire, covered
it, and planted grass over it. Worked great. (If anyone is
going to CU3-land, I can tell you where this ground screen
is - ready for you!)
The HF2V worked great for me on both 80 and 40 - no problem
working the world on both CW and SSB. Like other 1/4-wave
verticals, take the time to put a decent ground screen under it
and you won't be disappointed.
