     Gentlemen:

The X9 40 meter add on kit will begin shipping to dealers next week.

Yes, as posted by W8EB, the 40 meter add on kit is a single element
not two elements. As far as Cushcraft "promising" that it would be
two elements - well, I am not sure what "promises" were ever made.
Apparently Art made some statements about the add on kit being a two
element kit. These statements were made by Art without him or the
rest of our organization being sure that a two element kit would work.
I suspect Art had meant that a two element add on kit was our design
goal rather than it being a promise.

KN6DV posted the following statement - "Looks like ever since "Art"
left Cushcraft all things went down and not like Steve Best has
promised us." Actually, Will (KN6DV) nothing has gone down hill. We
have and continue to make tremendous changes here at Cushcraft. We are
extremely proud of the quality and performance of our newest products -
X7, X9 and the R6000. Our organization is almost through its journey
to ISO9001 certification which is expected in November 1998. Our new
web page will be up and running before months end. Its loaded with
information - new catalogs, answers to frequently asked question, all
instruction manuals available for instant free download (no waiting
over the weekend) and it will also feature our new TechExpress, the
best technical support program in the industry.

As far as the X940 being only a single element - our engineering
effort was lead by Danny (T93M) who designed both the X7 and the X9.
He tried to implement a two element solution but it was not
significantly better than a single element and it degraded the X9
performance on the other bands. We were not willing to make the
performance sacrifice on the other bands and we were not willing to
provide an inferior two element solution.

Had we implemented an inferior two element solution, most users in the
amateur community may have never noticed. However, that's not the way
     Cushcraft operates - period.

Actually, under our company club license (KB1CYD) we have used the
single element add on kit quite successfully. Users of the X7 40
meter add on kit have given it great praise and are very satisfied.
Please try it out yourself before you criticize it.

     Thanks for reading this.
