Hi All:
On the past long week end (for us in VE6 any ways) I did a
little tower job. Pulled off the top 4 8 foot sections of
a Delhi tower to install one more straight 5 section to
make it 72 feet tall. I used a 75 foot bucket truck with a
winch/gin pole set up. When we (Don, VE6EY, and myself) were in
the right position to do the pick, don asked if we had the
ability to lift the better part of the tower.
As I have used this truck for years I hadn't looked at the load
chart for the angle we were at. I knew we would be OK to do the
lift. I wonder if the crane operator felt the same way??
Before we did the lift I quickly ran through the steps to
ensure we would not over load the boom. I wasn't worried but my
friend hadn't been up in a truck like this one. From the charts
we found we could lift 975 lbs. No problem. We did the lift and
the tower is now standing waiting for guys to be installed.

The point is, and yes I do have one...

Always check your charts before a lift!!
Work safe and have fun.
