Hi John and group:
I got my license after I bought my house - complete with a 15-17 KV
Power line running about 100 feet from my house!
I can't speak for others in the same position, but here, I rarely
experience anything I can contribute to the AC Line. And the few times
I've experienced a problem (about twice in four years), the local power
company has been quick to check/fix any noise.
I currently have a Carolina Windom at about 45 feet, erected parallel to
and about 120 feet from the towers. No troubles.
I am currently trying to figure out how to get 50 feet of Rohn tower up
safely - perhaps a bigger challenge, since it would be placed within 150
feet of the lines. This seems safe to me, but I'd appreciate any
comments from the group.
Anyway, if John is planning another trip to the area with the power
lines, a handheld transistor radio might give him a heads up!
