Hello again.. Enclosed is a copy of a note I sent Steve about a problem I
had with the final measurements on a 40-2CD. Steve suggested I ask the
"Group" For their opinions as to what should be done. Any help would be
appreciated... 73..AL WD8PKF

>Steve.. Went out and remeasured the element ends using the figures
between Mid and CW..about a 3 inch diff. That went ok...buttt.. then went
to measure the entire half element as done in the CC manual. Found that I
was about one inch too long on both the reflector and the director. I then
rechecked all my measurements for the components of the elements. All were
ok except for the traps. It appears that I missed the fact that the Shrink
tubing was uneaven at the ends, and it would not let the elements fit
together snugly. All four traps show the same problem. Being a surgeon my
first impulse was to circumsize the black shrink tubing, but that may lead
to leakage of moisture into the trap. Am I correct it is the total element
length that counts? If so would it not be wiser to further shorten the end
tubing of each element so that the entire element ( or half element) would
end up at the length bsetween Mid and CW. Or should I get scapel and do my
thing so that each component matches what the manual says it should be!!
