You are also removing the plating from the tip every time you use the SS
toothbrush. Greatly lowers tip life.
For outdoor work, a group of us got together and invested in an Amp Crimp tool
for PL259's. The tool and connectors are a little pricey, but it beats the
heck out of dripping solder in your lap at 140'.
