K1VR:  Damn fine idea. First idea that lead somewhere.  To get close
enough to sniff, I had to really put my face down in the HAM IV
controller.  Remember how I said earlier that the fuse was OK?  Well, the
3 AG 1/8 amp fuse was fine.  BUT, it turns out that there are TWO 3AG
fuses in a HAM IV.  The one on the AC line (an AGC 3 amp) is down low and
on the same side that I had flipped the top cover, the right hand side. 
Hadn' t spotted that fuse the first three times I looked in. Problem
solved. 

As Roseanne Roseanna Danna would say:  "Never mind."
