Omega was a VLF navigation system similar to the Decca system.
Position
was determined by measuring the phase difference between several
transmitters. I only used it once during an oceanographic trip a
long
time ago so details have faded in memory. As I recall, 8 stations
gave worldwide coverage but accuracy was not too great. OK for
open
ocean sailing though. The transmitting stations operated on 10.8,
12.6
and 13.2 kHz (I think!). This gave some kind of fine phase
interpolation.
