Hi Steve,

I don't know if you recall, but we met briefly at your booth out in Dayton this
year. I'm not down on the MFJ at all! I'm talking about it having a frequency
tuning knob instead of a sweep generator. You have to carry a pencil and paper
with you if you really want to keep track of the numbers and properly plot out
an antenna's characteristics. I have been using one, and I find it
indispensible. I'm thinking that the AEA might make things even easier.

Some of the feedback on the AEA has been very positive; others have said it is
not as convenient to use as the MFJ. I'm hoping to learn more so I can evaluate
it quickly and make a good decision. My greatest concern is that one person
reported accuracy problems when measuring characteristics of a 10 meter
antenna.

The one feature I see missing from the AEA is a memory to allow storing of a
complete set of antenna data. The best situation would be to go up the tower,
get the data, come back down and suck it into your pc for analysis. I have an
HP 200LX, which is a palmtop that runs DOS and has an RS232 port. It may be
possible to write a utility to suck the data into the palmtop while up the
tower. That would be a reasonable work-around, I think.

Regards,

Jim K1IR
