Another good source of TAPERED aluminum tubing is perhaps so obvious that it
is sometimes overlooked. I suggest that you check with some of the flag
service companies around the your local area. If your not familiar with
them, these are the companies that go out and install, maintain flagpoles.
These companies often sell used aluminum flag poles very inexpensively.
They are normally pulled from service due to damaged hardware, dulling of
the finish or corrosion or a owner no longer needing them. As an example, I
got a nice used flag pole for $25, simply because it had been used in front
of a model home. Once the builder sold all his homes in the area, the flag
pole was no longer needed.

If you can get one of these, the beauty about them is that they can be used
as a flag pole while also serving as an antenna! Also, because they are
tapered, they do not have to be guyed. I have found that most flag poles fit
very nicely into a common size PVC pipe. Thus, one can dig a hole, insert
the PVC pipe, concrete it in place, and then merely slide the flag pole into
the PVC sleeve after the concrete sets. Also, because PVC pipe is being
used, it is a simple matter to insulate the entire flag pole or remove the
pole for maintenance.

Good Luck
