Why not use something a lot less flammable like automatic transmission
fluid. Nice and thin and works just fine in the ZF manual transmission in
my Ford F250 4x4. Of course substituting lubricant in a gearbox for your
tower is probably violating a rule about doing what the manufacturer
recommends.
