Pardon me while I wipe the egg from my face.
I confess I used PIN diodes in my protection
circuit (a) because they have LOW capacitance,
and (b) because I had them.
Low-capacitance fast-switching diodes are readily
available, low cost, and actually better for use in
receiver protection circuits. Use two parallel strings
of opposite polarization with each string composed
of 3 or 4 diodes in series on the receiver side of the
series resistor. ( I hope that is clear :-)
