Hi Steve -- You are quite right about average conditions, and about the
inevitability of resonance. Coincidentally, I posted a message on
Force12talk making virtually the same point you did -- it's incorrect to
say that an element will NEVER resonate. Well-known physics dictate that
it will, at some frequency, with some level of excitation. Then the only
issue is whether the design of the element is either non-resonant or
self-damping WITHIN THE EXCITATION RANGE PROVIDED BY THE RATED RANGE OF
WIND SPEEDS.
BTW, I'd characterize my antennas' environment as on the tough end of the
average range -- we live on a farm, on a ridge which gives the prevailing
winds a clear shot. 25-35 MPH is very common, particularly in winter and
spring, and gusts to 60-75 MPH happen at least once a year.
