I have owned several Universal Towers. My very first tower was a 30' one
and I installed the mast, rotor, and antenna before erecting the tower. It
was very hard to tilt the tower into position with all of that top weight.
You'll probably need a tow truck to winch yours up. I now have a 70' one
and I put this one up one section at a time with a gin pole. I climb mine
and
I was not aware that the manufacture does not recommend this. The tower
does move a lot more that a steel guyed tower, and it can be a little scary
to
climb at first. Be sure not to overload your tower, I did this and lost the
top section of a 60' Universal Tower several years ago.

73,
John

Subject: [TowerTalk] universal aluminium towers

Hi everyone ! I am putting up a tower for the first time and I have
several questions. one for now is this . I bought a 60 ft.
aluminum tower from Universal , It is a tip over free standing tower. my
plans
were to put the tower together on the ground, run the coax, attach the rotor
and the antennas and then tip the tower up into position. from what I am
hearing on this reflector the tower might be too heavy to erect that
way. I have gotten some input from others and they say , erect the tower
and
then climb the tower and attach the antennas the normal way , the
manufacturer does not recommend climbing but others say it is safe to do and
have
done so with there aluminum towers ,again one of the reasons for buying such
a
tower is the fact that it is a free standing tower with no guys, I figured I
would just tip the tower over to do any maintenance work or adding of new
antennas. the tower will be in a 5x5x5 concrete base, it has a 30 inch
base and it is rated at 21 square ft. of wind load. what do you think any
one have a tower such as mine ???? thanks John KB2HUK
