Hello All-
Today I poured the base for my Trylon T-500-72. It took 10-1/2 yds. of
concrete, as my 6x6x6 hole became belled out on the bottom from 2 heavy
rains. I was worried about losing the top part of hole { due to no support
from washout below}. As it was I had to increase my form to 6-1/2' square.
I am located down below Houston and soil is clay-gumbo. This was the
largest tower base ever for me, I believe my wife is ready to commit me.She
may have been tempted to leave me down in that big hole!
Anyway, for those interested a T-500-72 is going up soon.
I suspended the tower over the hole using 2x6's bolted to leg splices. I
positioned them up above the cement top and used concrete blocks and shims
to level the base assembly out.
    Thanks, Byron, WA5THJ.
