The TenTec reflector is having a discussion on the merits of 1.7 db gain.
Altho
the issue is about power out of the new Orion rig, Tower talkers may be
more knowledgeable and there is a related antenna situation.

The argument is that 1.7 db is just noticeable to most human ears, however
Force12 literature suggests that even that small a difference may cause
the AGC in the received signal to favor the louder station. Is the effect
then
greater than just the difference that a 1.7db would appear to be?

Note that 1.7 db is in the ball park of the difference between a two element
yagi
and a 3 element yagi. A two element is much easier to install & maintain.
Also 1.7 db is in the ball park of the difference in some of the yagis shown
in
k7lxc's antenna test report.

>From experience, I know that 1.7 db doesn't amount to much with clear
channel, S5 or greater signals but how effective is it for weak signals?
